Sydney Swans soar at ANZ Stadium

AFL and the Sydney Swans stormed onto ANZ Stadium in 2002 signaling the beginning of an incredible era for the Harbour City's famous Red and Whites.

The Swans face-off against the AFL heavyweights each year at ANZ Stadium with 2010 the biggest year yet. Paul Roos and his men take on 2009 Runners Up St Kilda in Round 1 (27 March), then host Collingwood on Saturday 26 June and 2009 Premiers Geelong on Saturday  August (Round 20) – treating Sydneysiders to the cream of the AFL crop.

Based in Sydney since 1982, the Swans popularity soared to never before seen heights when they began playing blockbusters at ANZ Stadium and this was never more evident than in 2003 the biggest ever crowd for an AFL game played outside of Victoria was set when 72,393 fans turned out to witness the Swans battle Collingwood.

With massive crowd support at ANZ Stadium the Swans went on to win the premiership in 2005 and fell by one-point in 2006. Their continued support at ANZ Stadium has seen them qualify for the finals for the last six seasons.

The Swans will play four blockbusters a year at ANZ Stadium until at least 2016 so if you haven’t heard the Swans theme song you better get used to it.

“Cheer, cheer the red and the white…”
