2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier - Socceroos v Iraq
Tuesday 18 June 2013
Australia will tackle Iraq in their final qualification match for the 2014 World Cup on Tuesday 18 June at ANZ Stadium.
The Socceroos have shared wins with Iraq in their last two meetings. The Gulf nation upset the Socceroos 3-1 on their way to claiming the 2007 Asian Cup. The Socceroos avenged this loss in their most recent 1-0 victory over Iraq in last year's Asian Cup.
With Group B so closely contested, there is the possibility the Socceroos will face a heart-stopping repeat of their famous 2005 penalty shootout victory over Uruguay - a victory that saw them qualify for their first World Cup finals in 31 years.Â
They will now face Iraq in a bid to qualify for their third successive World Cup finals and will be full of confidence given the Socceroos haven't been beaten on home soil since March 2009.
