AUSTRALIA’S Socceroos will meet South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana, in a World Cup Farewell Match at ANZ Stadium on Monday 26 May 2014 (kick-off at 7:30pm AEST).

It is the second of two football blockbusters confirmed for ANZ Stadium this year, with Italian superclub Juventus to play the A-League All Stars on Sunday 10 August.

Announcing the Socceroos Farewell Match at ANZ Stadium on Monday, NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell urged sports fans everywhere to make the send-off for the Socceroos a memorable night.

“The Socceroos have done this nation and NSW proud by qualifying for their fourth World Cup in front of 80,000 ecstatic fans who filled ANZ Stadium last June,” Mr O’Farrell said.

“As Australia’s global tourism and events city, Sydney is a fitting destination to send off our national football team.”

Football Federation Australia FA CEO David Gallop said the match against South Africa was the perfect opportunity for the nation to get behind the Socceroos before they leave Australia for the biggest event in world sport.

“The fans make a difference whenever the Socceroos play and it’s even more of a boost before the team heads to Brazil,” said Gallop.

“To have the farewell match at a world-class venue such as ANZ Stadium will provide an ideal backdrop for fans and players alike.”

The announcement came on the eve of the 100 Days to the 2014 FIFA World Cup milestone and Gallop said the 26 May game would be "a celebration of football".

The Socceroos Farewell Match will be the 21st official meeting between the Socceroos and South Africa at senior men’s international level with South Africa holding a 12-6 advantage.
