ELLIE Carpenter has a unique relationship with Sydney’s Olympic venue . . . she was an Olympics baby, born just a few months before Cathy Freeman raced into our hearts with her famous gold medal win at the Stadium.

Born in Cowra in south-west NSW to two physical education teachers, Ellie is now an established member of the all-conquering Australian Matildas squad, having played a starring role in their Tournament of Champions win in August 2017, and subsequent international success.

Ellie made her W-League debut for Western Sydney Wanderers in 2015 before transferring to Canberra United in season 2017/18.

Ellie was identified as a wunderkind of the game and showered in rave reviews by football talent scouts after she was the  only girl in an Australian Academy team of 21 (9-10 years) kids that toured Japan in 2010 and ended up being Player-of-the-Tournament.

Having represented Australia's Youth teams on a number of occasions, Ellie made her debut for the Matildas at age 15. She was the youngest Australian Olympian at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and became the youngest female footballer to ever partake in the Olympics.
