MASSIVE SUMMER OF SPORT AT ANZ STADIUM WITH T20 INTERNATIONAL CRICKET, BBL AND AFC ASIAN CUP
27 Jun 2014
JUST weeks after a jam-packed calendar of footy across four codes comes to an end, sports fans will be treated to a summer of sport to remember at ANZ Stadium.
The world-class action starts on Sunday 9 November with Sydney’s only T20 cricket international, Australia v South Africa, before the surging Sydney Thunder host their opening two Big Bash League games at the Stadium in December.
Cricket Australia will announce the full schedule for #BBL04 on Tuesday, with the Thunder locked in to play back-to-back home games at ANZ Stadium around the Christmas period.
Sydney Thunder confirmed this week that their two home games in January will be played at Spotless Stadium (Sydney Showground Stadium), just a six-hit or two from the front gates of ANZ Stadium a Sydney Olympic Park.
January will also feature the biggest football tournament ever staged in Australia – the AFC Asian Cup. The 16 best-performed football nations in Asia will fight it out for the right to be crowned AFC Asian Cup champions in a competition that will be attended by 500,000 football fans and watched by an extraordinary TV audience of 2.5 billion.
The AFC Asian Cup will feature 32 games of football in 23 days in five host cities, with all seven Sydney games being played at ANZ Stadium, including a Socceroos Group match against Oman on Tuesday 13 January (8pm), a quarter-final, a semi-final on Australia Day that seems destined to feature the Socceroos, and the AFC Asian Cup Final on Saturday 31 January.
