18 YEARS ago, the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games brought Sydney to life with a motivational celebration of sport.

From Saturday 20 October, Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will inspire the harbour city once more.

The Sydney Games will feature over 500 athletes from 18 nations competing in eleven sports, with Sydney Olympic Park hosting 35 events in the Quaycentre, Aquatic Centre, Genea Netball Centre and Athletics Centre.

The Invictus (Latin for unconquered) Games were created by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Sussex Prince Harry witnessing first-hand the restorative power sport.

After a trip to the Warrior Games in the United States, and his own military service, Prince Harry vowed to make a similar competition for the Commonwealth’s Allied Nations.

Featuring adaptive sports events such as Wheelchair Rugby, Swimming and Powerlifting, the Invictus Games embodies the fighting spirit of our wounded, injured and ill servicemen and women.

Over the course of the Games, ANZ Stadium – the main stadium for the 2000 Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games – will host a week of student activities in conjunction with the NSW Department of Education and Training and the Invictus foundation.

Thousands of Sydney students will visit Sydney’s Olympic Stadium to participate in sports such as Wheelchair Basketball, Sitting Volleyball and Indoor Rowing.

The NSW DET Student Invictus Game Experience will utilise the Stadium’s Level 1 Concourse and function rooms from 22-26 October.

Each day approximately 750 Primary and High School aged students will be joined by athletes and officials as they absorb the Invictus spirit and engage in friendly competition.

The closing ceremony will take place at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday 27 October. Prince Harry will be in attendance as he officially ends the 2018 Sydney Invictus Games.

Australian rock band The Birds of Tokyo will be joined on stage by hip-hop R&B artist Aloe Blacc.
