BIG EVENTS AND THE FANS RETURN TO SYDNEY’S OLYMPIC STADIUM
13 Jul 2020
ANZ Stadium management and government agency Venues NSW are working closely with sporting codes, clubs and NSW Health as events and fans return to the Stadium.
The NSW Waratahs v Brumbies Super Rugby AU blockbuster on Saturday 18 July will be the first sporting event staged at Sydney’s Olympic Stadium since the COVID-19 lockdown.
However, a number of other events have been confirmed or are in the planning.
- NRL home club the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs will play Western Sydney rivals the Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium in Round 12, with a family-friendly kick-off time of 2pm. See the event page here;
- The South Sydney Rabbitohs will announce shortly their plans for the rest of the 2020 NRL season;
- Other major events are close to being finalised, subject to NSW Public Health orders at the time.
The Waratahs will be returning to the scene of their most famous victory.
Tahs’ pulsating 33-32 win over the Crusaders in 2014 to claim their first ever Super Rugby title win was played in front of an all-time record Super Rugby attendance of 61,823.
The crowd watching on at the Waratahs v Brumbies game will pale by comparison as NSW Public Health Orders result in a gradual build-up in attendance numbers at sporting events. However, a passionate, vocal group of Members and supporters are on their way. NSW Waratahs home page here.
A range of measures of COVIDsafe measures are in place at ANZ Stadium to enable events to be staged while respecting NSW Health guidelines around social distancing. More information here.
While the return of big events to the arena at ANZ Stadium is obviously a focus, the Stadium is also re-opening for business, community and cultural events in the various function and event spaces. Once again, these are subject to NSW Public Health Orders and guidelines at the time.
ANZ Stadium Members and Corporate Clients will receive further updates in relation to event opportunities as information comes to hand about future events.
This September, ANZ Stadium will celebrate 20 years since the 2000 Sydney Olympic & Paralympic Games, an international event that marked Sydney’s coming of age as a global city.
